They call it South Carolina’s Hammock Coast for a reason.
This stretch of shoreline between Charleston and Myrtle Beach is where time slows down, life feels a little easier, and the water has a way of pulling you in.
The name comes from the old days, when locals wove hammocks from marsh grass and cotton rope. And it also references the way the coast itself sways between the mainland and the sea, dotted with tidal creeks, barrier islands, and miles of beach.
The Heart of the Hammock Coast
Murrells Inlet sits right in the heart of it all. It’s a fishing village with deep roots, legendary seafood, and a waterfront MarshWalk that comes alive at sunset.
Step off the dock and you’re minutes from some of the best fishing grounds on the East Coast.
Step on shore, and you’ve got Huntington Beach State Park, Brookgreen Gardens, and the history-soaked streets of Georgetown waiting for you.
Our Favorite Hammock Coast Activity
Of course, we’re a bit biased.
From the deck of our boat, we get the best seat in the house.
Mornings start with glassy water and sunrises that turn the marsh gold. Dolphins cruise past, pelicans skim the surface, and you can feel the day opening up with possibility.
One minute you’re reeling in a flounder that could feed the whole family, the next you’re chasing cobia or tangling with a shark that wants to fight you all the way to the boat.
And when the fishing’s done, the Hammock Coast keeps delivering—fresh shrimp straight off the dock, live music by the water, or just a quiet evening with your toes in the sand.
Out here, you don’t have to choose between adventure and relaxation. You can have both in the same day.
If you’ve never been, it’s time to see why we love it here. And if you have… you already know.
