The Inshore Slam: Catch Redfish, Speckled Trout & Flounder in Murrells Inlet
Ask any inshore angler on the South Carolina coast about their bucket-list day, and a lot of them will say the same thing: the inshore slam. And our crews are pulling it off right here in Murrells Inlet.
What Is the Inshore Slam?
The inshore slam means landing three of our most prized inshore species in a single trip: redfish (red drum), speckled trout, and flounder. Catch all three and you’ve completed the slam which is a genuine badge of honor and proof of a great day on the water.
It’s not guaranteed on every trip, but it happens more than you’d think in our waters. Just recently, one of our afternoon crews knocked out the full slam!
They caught flounder, red drum, and speckled trout all in one outing.
Redfish (Red Drum)
Redfish are the backbone of inshore fishing around Murrells Inlet. Known for their copper color and the signature black spot near the tail, they pull hard and put up a fight anglers love. You’ll find them tailing in the marsh, cruising oyster beds, and holding along creek edges.

Speckled Trout
Speckled trout (spotted seatrout) are prized for both the fight and the flavor. You’ll spot them by the scattered black dots across their back and those two sharp canine teeth up front. They love grass flats, creek mouths, and moving water where bait gets pushed through.ย

Flounder
Flounder round out the slam and are a favorite on the dinner table. These flat, well-camouflaged ambush predators lie on the bottom near structure, drops, and sandy edges, waiting to pounce on bait. Hooking one takes a little patience, which makes landing it that much more satisfying.ย

Where and When to Catch the Slam
All three species share the same inshore habitat around Murrells Inlet, oyster beds, marsh grass edges, tidal creek mouths, and structure like docks and pilings. That overlap is exactly what makes the slam possible on a single trip.
Our inshore trips run in calm, protected marsh water, making them perfect for anglers of all skill levels and great for families. Our captains know where these fish are holding based on the tide and conditions, and they’ll put you right on them.
