How Old Should Your Kid Be Before Taking Them on a Charter Fishing Trip?

At Fish Finder Fishing Charters, we believe there’s no such thing as “too early” when it comes to introducing kids to the water.

If they can step aboard with a smile, or if they can hold a fishing pole (even with a little help) we’re ready to help them make their first fishing memories!

Sometimes, those first memories aren’t even about the fish.

Early on, kids might spend just as much time playing with the bait, chasing a crab around the deck, or spotting dolphins in the wake as they do holding a fishing rod — and that’s perfectly fine.

For us, it’s all part of helping them fall in love with being on the water.

No Minimum Age — Just Maximum Fun

There’s no hard-and-fast rule for how old your child should be to join a charter. We’ve had 3- and 4-year-olds reeling in their first fish (with a little help from mom or dad) and loving every second.

For us, it’s about comfort, safety, and making sure the trip is tailored to their needs.

Calm Waters for First-Time Anglers

Because we do a lot of inshore and marsh fishing, kids can enjoy calm, protected waters without worrying about big waves.

It’s the perfect setting for little anglers to learn the ropes, spot wildlife, and feel the thrill of a tug on the line.

Growing Into the Adventure

As kids get older, the options open up — from inshore action to nearshore reefs and even offshore adventures for the more adventurous young anglers.

We’ve seen plenty of kids take on sharks, redfish, and other big fighters that will have them telling the story for years.

What Parents Should Know

We recommend bringing snacks, drinks, sunscreen, and a favorite hat or sunglasses to keep them comfortable.

We’ve got the rest covered — rods, bait, life jackets, and a crew that loves seeing kids light up when they land a catch.

Whether your child is three or thirteen, fishing together is more than just a day on the water — it’s a memory you’ll talk about every summer after.
