Flounder. Sharks. Redfish. Cobia. The Summer Bite Is 🔥
July in Murrells Inlet has been everything summer should be — hot sun, big smiles, and boats coming back loaded with stories (and fish). Families, first-timers, and seasoned anglers alike have been out on the water chasing everything from flounder to sharks, and this month hasn’t disappointed.
All across the Hammock Coast, visitors have been soaking in the good life — from sunset strolls at Huntington Beach State Park to exploring Brookgreen Gardens, teeing off at world-class golf courses, or grabbing fresh-caught seafood in historic Georgetown. But for those of us out on the water, it’s been a front-row seat to some of the best fishing the season has to offer.
Here’s what’s been biting:
- Flounder are loaded up inshore, and not just small ones. We put a 7+ pound slab in the boat this month that had everyone talking.
- Redfish are heating up along the jetties and coastal creeks, offering up solid fights and steady action.
- Shark fishing? Off the charts. Blacktips and Atlantic sharpnose have been the stars, and the screaming reels haven’t stopped.
- Cobia are still sliding through, especially on the nearshore structure runs — big, fast, and unpredictable.
- And bonus catches like spadefish and spotted seatrout (aka speckled trout) have kept the coolers colorful and the smiles wide. It’s the kind of fishing that keeps us out late, chasing that one more cast feeling.
Unforgettable Sunrises and Sunsets!
Every trip starts with a postcard sunrise over the water — and ends with a tired but happy crew headed back under a golden Hammock Coast sunset. You really can’t beat it.
August trips are going fast, and fall fishing is just around the corner. If you’re headed to Murrells Inlet, this is your chance to get in on the action.
