Grouper, Flounder, Trout and a Bull Red: The Fall Mixed Bag Off Murrells Inlet

Hereโ€™s the best part about fishing Murrells Inlet in the fall. You drop your bait down, and you have no clue whatโ€™s about to come up.

Could be a flounder. Could be a grouper. Could be a redfish that nearly yanks the rod out of your hands. This October, our anglers caught all of that and more. So if youโ€™ve ever wondered what fish you can catch in Murrells Inlet, let us show you.

The Bull Red That Stole the Show

Dad and son teamed up on this one, and just look at those smiles. A big red like this pulls hard, and every second of that fight is worth it. A quick photo, then back it went to make more redfish.

A Flounder Worth Bragging About

Flounder arenโ€™t just marsh fish. In the fall, they head out toward the ocean, and some big ones show up just off the beach. This one had our angler grinning ear to ear. And yes, they taste as good as they look.

Trout for the Win

Gray trout, also called weakfish, are a fall favorite. Fun fact: they get the name from their soft mouths, not because theyโ€™re easy to catch. Landing one takes a gentle touch, and this young angler nailed it.

Surprise! A Grouper Crashes the Party

Then thereโ€™s the fish nobody sees coming. This gag grouper came up off the bottom showing off that wild brown pattern. Grouper hang around structure in the ocean, so you never know when one will join the fun.

Why the Mixed Bag Never Gets Old

  • Every bite is a mystery. Thatโ€™s half the excitement.
  • Something for everyone. Kids, beginners and seasoned anglers all get in on it.
  • No two trips are the same. Come back next week and itโ€™s a whole new story.
